Biography

Al Kader Shriners Chief Rabban Night - November 18, 2017

Join Al Kader for a day at the Oregon State Fair

We are looking for some Nobles and their Ladies to join us at the Oregon State Fair, 2330 17th Street NE Salem, OR. The Fair opens on the 25th of August & runs through the 4th of September, hours are 10:00 am until 10:00 pm except for Fridays, Saturdays & Sunday the 3rd of September when they close at 11:00 pm. We have a prime corner booth in the Central Canopy area where we can promote both our fraternity and our great philanthropy. Admission is free to all who can donate a couple of hours spreading the word about what we do as Shriners. I don’t think that there is any Noble or Noble’s Lady I know that doesn’t enjoy talking about the fun we have as Shriners, or the heartwarming success stories of our “Shriner Kids” who we have helped at one of our 22 great Shriners Hospitals for Children. This is also a great opportunity to tell folks about the virtues of Freemasonry. We have a great display, as well as a video presentation, which we hope will sell a lot of our story for us. We may even have some our parade toys on display.

Bring your fez & spend a couple of hours at our booth, then enjoy the Oregon State Fair. Tons of great exhibits to enjoy, carnival rides for the young & young at heart, check the Oregon State Fair website for the feature acts that will be performing and plan your date accordingly. Remember that admission will be free for those Nobles & their Lady who donate a couple of hours at the Al Kader booth, unfortunately you will have to purchase your own tickets to see any of the feature acts who will be performing. I know those who helped at the Al Kader booth at the 2016 Oregon State Fair had a great time and I am sure that those who join us this year will enjoy it as well!

To get on the schedule, contact Art Hermanson at hermansonaj@hotmail.com; Aaron Epperson at aaron@strmlineteam.com or aaron@aaronepperson.com; or Herb Richardson at richardsonherb@ comcast.net. We look forward to seeing everyone at the Oregon State Fair.

Casino Night

Once again, a Casino Night will be held at the Al Kader Shrine Center on October 7, 2017. This will be the first time that Al Kader has hosted this event since 2013, when we had a fabulous fun-filled evening at the gaming tables.

Hosted by Al Kader & operated by Team Casino, we look forward to a great Las Vegas style evening with all of the net proceeds benefiting the Al Kader Patient Transportation Fund. Throughout the year, the Al Kader Patient Transportation Fund subsidizes the travel of our “Shriner Kids” and their parent(s) or guardian(s) to receive the much-needed treatment and follow up clinical visits. Although most assume that it is not overly costly to travel to the Shriners Hospital for Children in Portland, not all of our “Shriner Kids” can receive their needed treatment there. We have some who need to travel some distance to the Shriners Hospital that specializes in the particular care a patient might need, currently we have “Shriners Kids” that have to travel to the Chicago Shriners Hospital & have had some travel even further distances in the past. Even if treatment is received at the Portland Hospital, travel can be costly & the Patient Transportation Fund is there to help those in need who must travel 50 miles or more.

The Al Kader Patient Transportation Fund is administered by Al Kader, but is actually owned by the Shriners Hospitals for Children, which qualifies it as a 501(c)3 tax deductible charity. This means that all donations to the Al Kader Patient Transportation Fund are fully deductible charitable donations.

What better way to donate to a most worthwhile charity and at the same time have a great evening of fun at the gaming tables. A no-host bar will be open throughout the event, as well as tables well laden with heavy hors d’oeuvres. After an enjoyable evening at the various gaming tables of Craps, Roulette, Black- Jack & Hold em’Poker, take a chance at the end of the evening raffle with great prizes, to include a one week stay at a vacation home in Waldport, OR.

Whether you are an attendee, sponsor or both; Al Kader and our wonderful “Shriner Kids” thank you for supporting the Patient Transportation Fund.

Chief Rabban Report

Noble Art Hermanson
August 2017

Greetings from your Chief Rabban and I hope that everyone survived the recent heat wave without too much difficulty.

I am reaching out to the leaders of all of the Al Kader Clubs & Units within commuting distance to ask for your help at the Al Kader booth at the Oregon State Fair. Al Kader has a prime corner booth in the Central Canopy Area at the fair to allow us to “Market our Brand” promoting Al Kader, our fabulous Shriners Hospitals for Children network & Masonry. The Oregon State Fair in Salem runs from the 25th of August through the 4th of September. It is open from 10:00 am until 10:00 pm most days, staying open until 11:00 pm of Fridays, Saturdays & the second Sunday. We have requested 110 day passes & hope to obtain whatever parking passes we can get.

We need you, your members & ladies to help us staff the booth throughout the Fair. It would be great if our Clubs & Units would each take a full day and man the booth, with some of our smaller Clubs & Units partnering with another small Club or Unit to do the same. We don’t need a lot of Nobles & their Ladies to be there at the same time, but if we could get those who want to participate to take a couple of hours, we can cover the Fair throughout. A side benefit is that everyone who participates will get free entry into the Oregon State Fair to visit whatever they want, whenever they are not staffing our booth.

Our goal is to reach as many of the public who will be attending the Fair & let them know that Shriners are still active and what a great philanthropy we have. Those of you who have helped with similar events in the past are aware that we always get a lot of interest; which has resulted in getting men to petition Blue Lodges, helped in getting patients for the Hospital & always hearing great stories from those passing by who have benefited or have a friend or family member who has been a “Shriner Kid.” We WILL NOT be selling any raffle tickets nor soliciting funds, anything that is donated will go to the Al Kader Transportation Fund. We will provide all of the promotional material to include; handouts, informational brochures, static displays, Oregon Masonic petitions, Shrine petitions & hope to have an electronic program as well.

I hope that we can count on you, your members & ladies to spend a few hours “Selling the Shrine” at the Oregon State Fair. Please disseminate this information to your fellow Nobles & their Ladies within your Club or Unit. Think about your Club or Unit manning the booth for a day, perhaps bringing some of your parade toys to display, and have a fund day at the Oregon State Fair.

Those who can participate, or whose Club or Unit can obligate a day at the Fair, please contact me at hermansonaj@hotmail.com; Aaron Epperson at aaron@strmlineteam.org or aaron@aaronepperson.com; Herb Richardson at richardsonherb@comcast.net; or pass your desire through the Al Kader office to Sarah at sarah. gourde@alkadershriners.org or Janet at janet. martin@alkadershriners.org.
