Dick Duer, President
October 2018

Our meeting was held after taking a summer breather but we are ready to get back into the swing of things. We invite all fellow Shriners and their ladies to join us.

Looking forward to some fun adventures and traveling to fellow Shrine Club meetings to enjoy fellowship and friendship. The better the attendance the more we can accomplish for the Shrine and the Shrine Hospital to assist our little ones that have physical challenges.

Let’s see if we can’t have enough people at our next meeting that they have to expand our table service. We enjoy a great time of fellowship, business and a wonderful no-host lunch.

Next meeting is October 3rd at 11:30 A.M. at the Keizer Elks. Please, join us for a wonderful time.

We want to thank all those who took time out of their busy schedules to come to our meeting on June 5. We had a short meeting with a delicious lunch.

There was a reminder of the donkey softball game on September 8 at Holland Park with our annual BBQ picnic to follow. Looking for ward to seeing everyone in attendance and enjoying great food and fantastic fellowship.

Another reminder about the 73rd Annual Golf Tournament at the Oregon City Golf Course on the 16th of August. Let’s make this a year to remember.

Our meeting in July is canceled related to being the 4th of July. So, with that being said, our next meeting will be August 1st at 11:30am at the Keizer Elks Lodge. Great time to come join us along with your ladies to see how we can boost the support of Shriner’s and the benevolence that it shows for our country and community.

Looking forward to some great activities this summer and encouraging all to attend.

The Donkey Baseball game is coming up on September 8th with a picnic to follow.

Don’t forget the 73rd Annual Golf Tournament on August 16th at the Oregon City Golf Club. Ask any of our members for information and they will help you get registered or sponsor a hole. This is open to men and ladies. All proceeds go to Al Kader Shrine which supports our Shriner Hospitals to benefit all those children that are in dire need of medical assistance.

We, in Salem, are excited about all the activity and new things we can accomplish with your participation. Won’t you come join us on the first Wednesday ever y month at 11:30am at the Keizer Elks Club. Men, please, bring your ladies as they will enjoy hearing about what you are accomplishing, besides, they always like lunch out and not have to cook. Looking forward to seeing everyone, June 6th at 11:30 a.m..

A fun and exciting meeting was held February 7th at the Keizer Elks. We had a wonderful turnout with some new faces which is always exciting.

Our speaker this time was a young man running as a candidate for US Congress. His name is Joey Nations. Very prolific speaker with great knowledge of the workings of our government. His main two topics are corruption and immigration. Very well received by all in attendance.

Encourage all who can attend, come to our next meeting at the Keizer Elks at 11:30 on March 7. We have fun, food, fellowship and meeting. Gentlemen you are encouraged to bring your ladies. Thank You.

During our lunch meeting at the Keizer Elks Lodge we had a very wonderful privilege.

Officer Adams, from the police department, received the plaque for their participation at the donkey basketball game from Greg Jenkins on behalf of the club. The fire department is the recipient of the trophy for winning the game but they were unable to attend. They will be given the trophy at a later date. Thank You again for all the help from both the fire and police departments for helping us raise money for the Shriner Hospital to benefit the lives of some of our children that are indeed need of professional medical help. Officer Adams relayed a personal message that thankfully for the hospital his daughter is a graduate and doing well.

The next donkey basketball game is scheduled for Saturday, February 17, 2018 at the Salem Armory. Look forward to seeing everyone there. This is a great opportunity to show our support for the work that the Shrine Hospital does on a daily basis.

Our next meeting is Wednesday, November 1st at 11:30 at the Keizer Elks Lodge. Always looking for new faces that are wanting to assist in the mission of our club to promote the welfare of our hospital and the great work that is being done. COME JOIN THE FUN, LUNCH AND MEETING NEW FRIENDS AND FAMILIAR FACES.

A great meeting and lunch were had by fellow Shriners and their ladies on August 2 at Keizer Elks Club. Get well wishes for those that were absent or feeling poorly from the Shriner family. Condolences to Louie Samsung with the loss of his beautiful spouse, Betty. Our Potentate Rep. Dave Simpson brought us up to date on future events and asking all to participate and encourage others. He said that there was need of fellow Shriners to help out at the booth at the State Fair – any day for 2 hour shift. To volunteer please, call Art Hermanson or just show up anytime from 10 am to 10:30 pm. All donations are going to Al Kader Transportation fund, thereby allowing for tax deductions. Family Picnic will be August 27th at Oaks Park. This is a great time to introduce friends and family to our organization and let them all have a great time together. There will be food, beverages, games and lots of fun activities. All are looking for ward to our annual Donkey Basketball Picnic to honor our police and fire departments for their participation. Encourage all to attend on September 9 at Riverside Park in Keizer from noon to 4. It will be a fun time of fellowship and recognition. Bring your favorite side dishes and things to share. Looking for ward to seeing each one, not only at the picnic but at our meeting on September 6 at 11:30 at Keizer Elks Club. Bring your ladies and your Fez and enjoy our time together.

A wonderful meeting was held at Keizer Elks Lodge. A lunch was enjoyed by all.

We mourn the loss of our brother, Richard D. Lee. He was very active with The Shriners and the Shriner’s Hospital. He was quite a family man and enjoyed fishing trips with family and friends. Please remember his family in prayers for comfort and peace.

We were honored to have Shelby Anderson, Senior Princess of Bethel #43 in Salem and her mother, Debbie. Shelby was full of information related to Job’s Daughter’s regarding its history, the leadership programs, and the leadership positions (Jr. and Sr. Princesses and the Honor Queen). Shelby will be installed as the Honor Queen on June 10th at Scottish Rite at 2 pm. She invited all to attend. This would be a great way for all to show their respect for the work that these young ladies do. It is important for all Masons to be involved in the youth programs of the fraternity, as these young people are the future. They truly enjoy having as many as possible in the side lines to show support.

Dave Simpson, Potentate Rep., encouraged attendance at all affairs and to develop greater friendship of the fraternities. He presented an informational tribute to “The Star Spangled Banner” and how it came about. Very inspirational and showing tribute to our country.

Meeting enjoyed by fellow Shriners with their ladies.

We were honored to have Potentate, Ron Gamble and his Rep, Dave Simpson, enjoy our time of meeting and fellowship.

Potentate Rep, Dave Simpson, updated on the new website that should be completed by the end of May. There is also a new phone system at the Wilsonville Shrine Temple, that allows our fellow Shriner’s that aren’t capable of being at a meeting to call and join in the conversation. There are several parades in the near future and looking forward to participation of as many as possible. Hope to see everyone at the Pickles Game at Walker Stadium on July 22.

Potentate, Ron Gamble, stated that the Salem Shrine Club has been around since 1915 and chartered in 1956. He encouraged involvement in local and statewide happenings.

During the meeting on June 7th, planning a representative from Bethel Job’s Daughters to come and give us information about their program and how we help them become mature young ladies that are an asset to our community

Looking forward to seeing some new faces join the rest of us on the first Wednesday of each month. We meet at 11:30 am at the Keizer Elks club for meeting, lunch and fellowship. Ladies welcome.

Louie Samsung, a 70 year Mason. Born in Portland, Arkansas where he became a Mason in 1947. Spoke to us of his life history and some of the fabulous places he went and the things that he did. If you get a chance to talk to him, you will be amazed at the places he has been. He has been to Vietnam, Tunisia, India, Philippines, and Alaska to name a few. Has held many offices in different places.

Potentate Rep, Dave Simpson, reiterated the importance of increasing membership, activities coming up and importance of attendance, website improvement coming in the next 30-60 days to make access easier to navigate.

Looking forward to seeing each one at our next meeting, May 3rd. Come see what we are about and help us celebrate the work of the Shriner’s.

We had a great Annual Salem Shrine Club Picnic (FREE Steak,Chicken and Shrimp) and all the fixings, Saturday September 10th at the Seizer River Road Park across the Street from the Fred Meyer’s parking lot.

Small turn out, we had great weather and was enjoyed by all. Those that missed sure missed a great function and ILL Greg Jenkins BBQ and corn on the cobb, hopefully we will have more notices out next year.

We did have a great surprise, even though they had been invited, did arrive later at the picnic site, firemen came in their hook and ladder truck and policemen in their patrol car.

We presented the updated traveling trophy to the firemen this year and participating plaques to both groups for this year’s Donkey Basketball game. The standings are now 2 and 2 each in the 4 years of competition.

Our next Shrine Club meeting will be at our regular meeting place THE KEIZER ELKS, OCTOBER 5, 2016 @ 11:30 A.M.. Lunch about 12:15 P.M..

Same place and time through December, “First Wednesday of the month.”
